Steve the Freakysaur

Steve the Freakysaur is the Chrome dinosaur game, except Steve jumps when the player sticks their tongue out at the webcam.

Hao Cui and I built it at Daydream Vancouver on September 27, 2025. It was the biggest of Hack Club's 100 game jams in North America.

Our Pygame prototype's first commit landed at 10:04 AM, we started the Next.js port twenty minutes later, and our last commit landed at 7:42 PM, during demos.

MediaPipe outlines the lips with 20 landmarks; red covering at least 6% of an open mouth counts as a tongue.

We won first place among 124 students and more than 50 projects. My post about it passed 220,000 impressions and led to my first engineering offers.
